I play Tate under the interpretation that the Murder House had a significant influence on him over his mood and actions/choices while living and dead. Not completely to blame, not a possession or cop-out handwave-y explanation, but I believe it to have been a catalyst. Between Constance's shenanigans, being a brooding 90s teenager, being quiet and sensitive as he is, and the drug usage, I believe he isn't psychopathic. I think a very dark part of him existed and the House helped as one of many grains of sand to tip the scales that lead to Many Unfortunate Choices.

Just something to keep in mind when regarding my meager representation of this character.
